Top seed Aryna Sabalenka’s push for another tour title sees her face Marie Bouzkova in the Washington semi-finals. The winner here will battle Paula Badosa or Caroline Dolehide for the title. This is the second career meeting between Sabalenka and Bouzkova and below we offer a prediction for the match. 

It is another semi-final showing for Sabalenka in 2024 after the world number three defeated Victoria Azarenka in straight sets in the last round. This is the fifth time this year that she has advanced this far. While the Belarussian won all four semi-finals she has contested, she hasn’t had similar success in championship matches.

This year’s Australian Open champion will hope to change that in DC to win her second title of the year. Sabalenka defeated Bouzkova last year in Miami in their first career matchup. She won in a dominant two sets, allowing Bouzkova just three games.

Meanwhile, Marie Bouzkova is having quite the debut campaign in DC. She has won two of her three matches here in straight sets and is now just two wins away from a second career tour title.

To make it to the semi-finals for the second time this year, the Czech player defeated the wildcard Robin Montgomery. That victory came in straight sets as she claimed the 17th win of a rocky year that has also seen her lose 14 times. 

A finalist in Bogota back in April, Bouzkova had lost more matches on hard courts than she had won before arriving in DC. Now she has won eight times in 16 outings on the surface. Advancing to the semis has moved the 26-year-old up four places and into 39th in the live ranking.
