Top seed Aryna Sabalenka is in only her second quarter-final at Indian Wells. To reach the semi-final of this outdoor hard court tournament, she must defeat 24th seed Liudmila Samsonovai. Here’s our match prediction.

The world number one has won 15 of her 18 matches this year but only won one title. That was the Adelaide International. Her only other final was when losing to Madison Keys in the Australian Open.

So far in this WTA 1000 tournament, Sabalenka has won three matches, all in straight sets with McCartney Kessler, Lucia Bronzetti and Sonay Kartal defeated. In her last five sets, only nine games have been lost.

The winner of this match will face either fifth seed Madison Keys or wild card Belinda Bencic.

Liudmila Samsonova caused a shock in the last round when beating sixth-seeded Jasmine Paolini in straight sets. The last ranking list had the Russian in 25th place but she is now up to 21st in the live rankings.

Nine out of 15 matches have been won by her in 2025. This is the first time the 26-year-old has made it past the second round of a tournament since Adelaide in January. Before beating Paolini, Samsonova had defeated Caty McNally and seed Daria Kasatkina.
