Top seed Aryna Sabalenka will on Tuesday battle the unseeded Katie Boulter in round two at the China Open. The winner will play either Jasmine Paolini or Yuan Yue next. Aryna Sabalenka relinquished just three games in her straight-sets victory over the wildcard Sofia Kenin in the first round. The match marked her return to the tour after her US Open finals loss almost a month ago. The current world number one will therefore be on a revenge mission in Beijing. Sabalenka is in her third main draw appearance here and was a quarterfinalist in 2018. She has again been one of the more consistent performers at tour level this year. The Belarussian has won 51 of the 62 matches she has played, resulting in three titles from six finals contested. Sabalenka has won both meetings with Boulter.

Katie Boulter defeated fellow qualifier Magda Frech in three sets to book this match with Sabalenka. That win marked a winning return to the main draw in Beijing for the Briton after five years. Boulter has put together an impressive 38-18 record and has registered the majority of her victories on hard courts. She has won 22 of 32 matches on the surface resulting in one ITF title. Boulter has played majorly outside the tour. The highlight of her campaign however came at top level as she won her first tour title by triumphing in Nottingham. Boulter is now back to her career-high ranking after moving up six places to 50th in the live ranking.
