Both of these players won their opening match in the purple group of the hard court WTA Finals. Aryna Sabalenka takes on Jasmine Paolini looking to edge closer to the semi-finals and ending the year top of the rankings. Here's our match prediction.

Sabalenka is the current world number one and if winning all her group matches she'll end the year in that position. The world number one is in top form with three of her last four tournaments being won. All were played on hard courts with the most recent title victory being in Wuhan.

Sabalenka won her first match in this group beating Qinwen Zheng in straight sets, losing seven games. Sabalenka is 2-2 in previous matches with Paolini but 2-1 up in hard court matches.

Jasmine Paolini beat Elena Rybakina in her opening group match. Her opponent made 56 unforced errors and we don't imagine Sabalenka making anywhere near as many in this match against the Italian.

It's a tough schedule for Paolini as she's also in the doubles with Sam Errani and played on Sunday. Two Grand Slam finals were reached by the 28-year-old this year. That form hasn't been repeated in recent months though with only one quarter-final in her last five events.

We tip Sabalenka to win in straight sets.
