Defending champion Aryna Sabalenka takes on 27th seed Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in the Australian Open quarter-final. The winner will face either third seed Coco Gauff or 11th-seeded Paula Badosa in the last four. Here's our match prediction.

It's a massive match for Sabalenka who has dropped to second behind Iga Swiatek in the live rankings. Sabalenka has won this outdoor hard court tournament for the past two years.

This year has started well for Sabalenka with victory in the Brisbane International. Three more matches have been won in this tournament, all in straight sets. Of those three matches, two have seen over 18.5 games being played.

Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova leads her opponent 2-1 in past meetings. Only one was played on an outdoor hard court and the Russian won that but it was five years ago. All three previous matches have had over 18.5 games played in them with two going to a final set.

Wins have so far come against Yuan Yue and Anastasia Potapova (both going to a final set), Laura Siegemund and 18th seed Donna Vekic. This is only her second tournament since last August's US Open.

Melbourne suits her though and this is her fourth Australian Open quarter-final but the first since 2020. We go for over 18.5 games to be played in this match.
