World number 45 Jack Draper faces Arthur Rinderkneck in the Paris Masters first round. Whoever wins this match will face either 16th seeded Frances Tiafoe or Lorenzo Sonego in round two. Draper is up to 44th in the live rankings and that's just one place behind his opponent. He'll go above him if winning their encounter on Tuesday. The British player has had a breakthrough year and began 2022 ranked 265th. In terms of ranking points earned this year, Draper won't be in the ATP Tour Finals but he will be playing in the NextGen tournament as he's currently fifth on that list for points earned this year. He took a set off world number one Carlos Alcaraz last week and beat Felix Auger-Aliassime in the US Open. His main target now must be to be seeded at the Australian Open and a good run in Paris will help him with that.

Arthur Rinderkneck is at a career high ranking at present, just like his opponent. The Frenchman was down in 69th in August but has been in good form since then. He's made at least the quarter final in each of his last four tournaments. He's had wins over highly ranked Diego Schwartzman and Pablo Carreno Busta (both better on clay rather than hard courts) and in Basel last week, Marin Cilic. Again like his opponent, Rinderkneck has had success on the Challenger Tour too. This looks like being a tight match with both players in good form. Draper can edge a win, it might take three sets though.
