Arthur Fils takes on Matteo Arnaldi who is only one place below him in the latest ranking list. This is a first round match in the Miami Masters with the winner facing the 17th seed Alexander Bublik in their next match. Fils is the world number 37 but his very best form in 2024 came in the early weeks of the new year. The Frenchman got to the last eight in Hong Kong and then the semi-finals in Auckland. His form slipped after that then with only the second round of the Australian Open reached. FIls then went to South America to play on their clay court season. After two first round losses, he made it to the last eight in Santiago. Back on hard courts, he was beaten in the last 32 at Indian Wells beating Alejandro Davidovich-Fokina before losing to Casper Ruud in straight sets.

Matteo Arnaldi began this year with a run to the last eight in the Brisbane outdoor hard court tournament. He reached the last 16 in Adelaide and round two in the Australian Open, losing to Alex de Minaur. He's had some tough draws this year with losses being inflicted by Ben Shelton, Taylor Fritz and in Indian Wells, the eventual champion Carlos Alcaraz. Arnaldi has had one previous ATP Tour main draw match against his opponent. That was last year at the US Open with Arnaldi winning in five sets. Before that they'd met in the qualifying rounds of a clay court tournament with Arnaldi also winning that match. We go for him to beat Fils in this tournament.
