Arthur Fils has won all his four matches starting from the round-robin stage. He has had to dig deep in a majority of those games however with only one ending in straight sets. The Frenchman qualified for the knockout rounds as winner of the Green Group and overpowered second seed Luca Van Assche in the semis. He won in four sets against his fellow countryman and had to come from a set down to do so. Fils hasn’t been a strong starter in matches in Jeddah and has relinquished the first set twice. The 19-year-old had an outstanding campaign and finished with a career-high ranking of number 36. This was 74 places above his next opponent. Fils, who has compiled a 43-23 record, won his maiden tour title in Lyon and finished as runner-up in Antwerp.

Hamad Medjedovic has been a strong starter in Jeddah and only once has he lost the first set. He will hope to start strongly against Fils and win the tournament without losing a match. Fils’ first set struggles, coupled with the rest Medjedovic got after his last match, should have the Serb confident of a win. Medjedovic, who topped the Red Group, saw his semifinal tie with Dominic Stricker end prematurely in the second set following Stricker’s retirement. The 20-year-old had lost at least one set in each of his first three fixtures before his semifinal match. Medjedovic who has compiled a 47-23 record, did not have the tour success like Fils but did record two semifinals at the level. He was ranked sixth among the eight players who qualified for this year’s tourney.
