World number 17 Frances Tiafoe has a date with Arthur Fils in the third round of the Miami Open. A first meeting between the two will have the winner take on Alexander Zverev or Jordan Thompson. Read on for our preview of this match.

Fils, marking his second appearance at Miami, had an easy pass to this round after Gabriel Diallo retired. The Frenchman was leading 1-0 then. Advancing to this stage means he has set a record at Miami, having exited in the first round last year.

With four wins in his last five matches, he will be confident going into this fixture. It has been a positive year for Fils, who has compiled a 9-5 record.

Tiafoe is the more experienced here, making his eighth Miami Open appearance. After his third round elimination at Indian Wells, he is here courtesy of a straight-sets win over Alejandro Davidovich Fokina.

It has so far been a shaky campaign for the American and that second round win ensured he enters this match on a winning record. He has so far compiled a 6-5 record and 50 career Masters 1000 wins.

Advancing to this stage was not in doubt as before the second round match, he had won all five of his opening matches this year. However, he hasn’t recorded multiple wins at one event yet.
