Seventh seed Arthur Fils will face lucky loser Daniel Altmaier in the Rotterdam Open second round. A match against Jakub Mensik or Alex de Minaur in the quarter-finals awaits the winner. Below is our prediction.

Fils had to come from a set down to progress from the opening round. The Frenchman showed a bit of sluggishness against Constant Lestienne, winning in two hours and eight minutes.

It was the fifth time this season that he lost at least one set. Fils has compiled a 5-2 record and a third-round finish at the Australian Open is his highlight thus far.

After victory at the Davis Cup before arriving in Rotterdam, he is on a two-match winning run. The world number 19 has won three times against Altmaier, once on an indoor hardcourt.

Daniel Altmaier had already exited the competition when he lost his final qualifying round fixture. He, however, was handed a lifeline to play as a lucky loser.

The German defeated the in-form Aleksandar Kovacevic in three sets in the first round. That was only the third win of a poor start to the season.

Altmaier has lost six times already. Despite this slow start, he will be confident of a win against Fils given that he has defeated him twice before.

The 26-year-old, who has jumped up to 83rd in the live ranking, also has a win on indoor hardcourts against Fils.
