Eighth seed Brandon Nakashima and the wildcard Arthur Fils will on Friday square off in the semifinals at the Lyon Open. The winner of this match will play either fourth-seed Francisco Cerundolo or second-seed Cameron Norrie in the final. Arthur Fils has had luck on his side in his rise to the last four here. The Frenchman has played only one full match which was the first round straight sets win over Zhang Zhizhen. His second-round battle with Mikael Ymer ended prematurely in the first set after Ymer was disqualified. In the quarterfinals top seed Felix Auger-Aliassime handed him a walkover as a result of injury. Fils is now through to his third semifinal of the season which has allowed him to break into the top 100 at number 99. He has a record of 22 wins and nine losses with eight of his wins coming on clay.

Brandon Nakashima has struggled to get going this season and is currently on a losing record with six wins and seven losses. Three of his wins however have come in Lyon where he is on the verge of advancing to only his second tour final. He has dropped one set in the process and defeated third seed Tommy Paul 2-0 in the quarters. This superb showing in his debut here has nudged him up five places to 47th in the live ranking. The American has played more than six hours of tennis in Lyon and this could be a disadvantage against Fils.
