Argentina vs England Prediction & Betting Tips - Rugby World Cup
by Devesh Jaganath | in Rugby World Cup Predictions
With just two matches remaining in the 2023 Rugby World Cup, Argentina and England will face off one last time on Friday, with the winner claiming the bronze medal. While this would not have been the match that either of these sides would have been hoping to be playing this weekend, it will give the players a chance to sign off from the competition on a winning note. Not to mention, it will also set the stage for the blockbuster final between New Zealand and South Africa here at the Stade de France on Saturday, October 28.

Argentina - England: Form Analysis
It is perhaps somewhat fitting that Argentina faces the side that beat them in the opening match of the competition in this Bronze Final match. And, while the bronze medal will not have been what they would have hoped for, getting revenge over England for that 27-10 defeat will be a great consolation prize. Most would agree that Los Pumas got through their group without being at their best. They overcame Samoa, Japan, and Chile, but their undoubted best result came in the quarter-final, where they beat Wales 29-17. Heading into the semi-final, Los Pumas were huge underdogs, and the result matched the odds as they were no match for the mighty All Blacks. The South Americans will need to be solid at scrum time here and will need to dominate the breakdown, or it will be unlikely they will be able to overcome this opponent.
Meanwhile, England suffered heartbreak in the semi-final. The Red Roses were not only the final Northern Hemisphere side left in the competition but were also the only unbeaten team in the final four. Steve Borthwick’s side were the outsiders in their semi-final match but came flying out the blocks and were the better side for the best part of the 80 minutes. However, the Springboks rallied late and forced penalties at the scrum, which ultimately helped them get over the line by a solitary point. England will need to rally one more time here, but they have already shown that they have the personnel to go toe-to-toe with the best in the world. George Ford kicked all 27 points in their last match against this opponent. But based on their team selection in this one, we will likely see much more running with the ball in hand than in the last meeting.

Argentina & England Squad Analysis
Cheika has made only three changes to the starting line-up he put out against New Zealand for this match. Lock Pedro Rubiolo, scrum-half Tomas Cubelli, and centre Jeronimo de la Fuente have been brought into the starting 15. They will take over from Tomas Lavanini, Gonzalo Bertranou, and Santiago Chocobares, respectively. This implies that Juan Cruz Mallia, Emiliano Boffelli, and Mateo Carreras will once again form the back three.
Borthwick, on the other hand, has made eight changes to his starting 15, and flanker Tom Curry is poised to achieve his 50th Test cap for the country. Marcus Smith, having recovered from his concussion, returns to the starting lineup at full-back, while Henry Arundell takes over from Elliot Daly on the left wing. In the pack, Courtney Lawes is replaced by Curry, with Sam Underhill at openside flanker. There is also an all-new front row featuring Ellis Genge at loosehead, Theo Dan at hooker, and Will Stuart at tighthead.
