Anna Bondar vs Ella Seidel Prediction & Betting Tips - WTA Hungarian Grand Prix

Home crowd favorite Anna Bondar takes on Lucky Loser Ella Seidel in the second round of the WTA250 Hungarian Grand Prix in Budapest. Both players have had very different routes into this second-round game, and our prediction for the match will reflect that.

Bondar comes into the game enjoying one of the best seasons of her career. She has a 68% winning record on clay, which is comfortably her favorite surface. The Hungarian right-hander has reached four finals this year, three on clay, and she has won two of them. She won the W75 Porto in February and then reached the final in both Bellinzona and Chiasso, losing both, before winning the W75 Olomouc last month in impressive style. 

This excellent form has seen her move to 98th in the current WTA rankings, still a little short of her peak ranking of 50, which she achieved in July 2022. She battled hard to beat Serbia's Olga Danilovic 7-6(5), 6- 4 in the first round to earn the right to take on Seidel.

Germany's Ella Seidel can't complain about not having a little luck go her way in this tournament. After beating Lola Radivojevic of Serbia 7-5, 7-5 in her first qualifying game for the tournament, she then lost 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 to Bulgaria's Gergana Topalova. Despite that loss, she received a first round spot as a lucky loser, where she was drawn to face seventh seed Moyuka Uchijima of Japan. 

Unfortunately, Uchijima was injured in the contest and retired with the score 6-1, 1-0 in Seidel's favor. Seidel has not had the best year, but has had one victory in the W35 Stuttgart-Vaihingen at the start of July, where she didn't drop a set on her way to victory in the tournament.

The winner of this Round 2 match will face either top seed Diana Shnaider or qualifier Ekaterina Makarova in the quarterfinals.
