19th seeded Grigor Dimitrov takes on former champion Andy Murray in the US Open second round. The victor will face German opposition in round three, either 12th seed Alexander Zverev or Daniel Altmaier. Dimitrov had a marathon match in the first round against unseeded Alex Molcan. He looked on the way out after going two sets to love down. Both those sets went to a tie-break and so did the fifth set as Dimitrov completed a great comeback. The Bulgarian is looking to avoid a fourth successive second round defeat in the US Open. He first started playing here in 2009 but has only got past round two on three occasions. His best run was getting to the last four in 2019. This year has seen him reach the third round of the Australian Open and the last 16 at both Roland Garros and Wimbledon. His best recent form is a semi-final in the Washington hard court tournament.

Andy Murray had a straight sets win over Corentin Moutet in the first round. He was ranked 37th at the start of this tournament and is two places lower than that in the live rankings. Murray reached the third round of this Grand Slam last year and it's 11 years since he became the US Open champion. Murray hasn't got past the third round of a Grand Slam since doing so at Wimbledon six years. He looked in good form in the first round though and didn't have any injury scares.
