13th seed Alex de Minaur takes on unseeded Andy Murray in the Paris Masters first round. Up next for the winner is a second round game against either wild card Benjamin Bonzi or lucky loser Dusan Lajovic. De Minaur is 13th in both the overall and ATP Live Race. He's unlikely to finish in the top eight and qualify for the ATP Tour finals with a 685 point gap to make up. Finishing ninth or tenth is more likely with a deep run in this indoor hard court tournament and that'd earn him one of the alternates spots. The Australian lost in the last 16 in Basel last week losing to Tallon Griekspoor. He recently got to the last eight in Tokyo and beat Murray in Beijing but did had to go to a final set. He also beat him on grass at Queen's Club in the summer and that took his record against the Scot to 5-0, three being achieved on hard courts.

Andy Murray is 40th in the overall rankings and Live ATP Race. His singles tournament season ends here but he'll want to get some points in the bag to boost his chances of being seeded at the Australian Open. It's been another inconsistent year for the Scottish player with 15 wins in ATP singles tournaments and the same number of losses. The titles he has won in 2023 have been on the Challenger Tour. Recent form hasn't been great with three of his last four matches lost. The only win came against Ye Cong Mo who was ranked 668th at the time. He's yet to beat de Minaur and we expect his wait to continue.
