Fourth seed Francisco Cerundolo is in his second ATP Tour clay court semi-final of the year. He takes on the top seed Andrey Rublev for a place in the final. Who’ll make it to the title decider? Read our prediction of this match.

Cerundolo has had a consistent year on clay but had lost his last three quarter-finals played this year. That run of last eight defeats looked like stretching to four on Thursday. He had to win a final set tie-break to get past Lorenzo Sonego.

Next week sees the Argentinian play in the Olympic tennis tournament. That’s also being played on clay and he could possibly play tenth seed and home favorite Ugo Humbert in round two. Cerundolo is 28th in the live rankings after reaching this semi-final.

This is his third match against Rublev (both previous ones played on clay) with the honors shared so far. Rublev won the most recent match played last year with two tie-breaks played. Another one on Friday is a possibility.

Andrey Rublev has been struggling for form in recent months. Before this tournament he had played five events (including two Grand Slams) in which he had failed to reach the last eight. He’s up to eighth in the live rankings but has announced his withdrawal from the Paris Olympics.
