Andrey Rublev vs Daniel Evans Prediction & Betting Tips - ATP Australian Open
by Steve Ashfield | in Tennis Predictions
Fifth seeded Andrey Rublev attempts to make it into the Australian Open fourth round for the third time. He takes on the 25th seeded Daniel Evans for a place in the last 16. The winner of this match will face either ninth seeded Holger Rune or unseeded Ugo Humbert. Rublev started the week ranked sixth in the world but is up to fifth in the live rankings but a fair number of points behind fourth. His best performance in this tournament has been reaching the last eight in 2021. Although he's a top ten ranked player, Rublev is yet to get to a Grand Slam semi-final. This year has seen him play both the Adelaide International tournaments. He didn't win a match in either with tough draws as he lost to Roberto Bautista Agut and Thanasi Kokkinakis. That was a disappointing start to the year after a strong finish to 2022 that included a win in Dijon and getting to the last four of the ATP Tour Finals. This week has produced wins over Dominic Thiem (losing just nine games) and a four set win over Emil Ruusuvouri, losing the third set on a tie-break.
Daniel Evans is one of three British men in the last 32. He's yet to reach a Grand Slam quarter final and has only made it to the fourth round of one on two previous occasions. One of those was in the 2017 Australian Open but before this year he'd only won four matches in Melbourne in as many years. Evans began this week ranked 30th but is up to 28th in the live rankings. This year started for Evans in the United Cup team tournament and he lost two of his three matches. Since then, Evans lost in his first match of the second Adelaide International, beaten by MacKenzie McDonald. In this tournament, he's had wins over Facundo Bagnis (in four sets) and a straight sets win over Jeremy Chardy, losing only nine games. He's had eight previous matches against Rublev and they are tied at 4-4. Rublev has won two of the last three (both in 2022) though Evans won the mosr recent match. This could be a tight match but Rublev has the slight edge.
