Seventh seed Alexander Zverev will play fifth seed Andrey Rublev on Friday in the 2023 ATP Finals. This fixture will be the final match for both players in the Red Group where Zverev is second and Rublev fourth. Andrey Rublev has already been eliminated from this year’s end-season championship. The Russian has lost his two opening matches without winning a set. He lost by six games to Daniil Medvedev in his first match then by seven games to Carlos Alcaraz last time out. He will hope to sign out with a victory against Zverev. Having defeated the German in all three of their matches this year, he will be confident of a win. Rublev’s last win over Zverev came on indoor hard court in Vienna last month.

Despite being dominated by Rublev this season, Alexander Zverev still has the head-to-head advantage in this series. He has won five of the eight competitive matches between the two. The German will be eager to get back to winning ways against Rublev to boost his chances of qualifying for the semifinals. Zverev, who is a two-time ATP Finals champion, lost in straight sets to Daniil Medvedev in his last match. It was a disappointing outing as he had begun the tournament with a 2-1 success over second seed Carlos Alcaraz. Zverev has won seven of the 13 matches he has played on indoor hard courts this year.
