Anaheim Ducks vs Toronto Maple Leafs Prediction & Betting Tips - NHL

Just two NHL games on the slate for Thursday morning where the 17-10-7 Toronto Maple Leafs are on a West Coast swing, taking on the 13-23-0 Anaheim Ducks. It's been another season of struggle for the Ducks, well on their way to a sixth consecutive season without a playoff spot. That is a bitter pill to swallow for fans who were spoiled by five consecutive Pacific Conference championships from 2012-13 to 2016-17. They have been terrible on home ice this season, losing 14 of 20 at home, much better when they have been on the road with a record of 7-9-0. They were 9-6-0 in mid-November but have not been able to maintain that momentum, losing 17 of their 21 games since then. They have won just once in their five straight home games over the Festive period but remarkably that was against the Vegas Golden Knights who are by far the best of the five teams they played. Twice shut out in that time by the Arizona Coyotes and the Calgary Flames, the first time that the Flames have kept a clean sheet this season.
This is the second game of a back-to-back for the Leafs who will have played in Los Angeles against the Kings the night before. William Nylander is having a career-best season with 48 points on the board already. His career high is 87 from last season with a target of more than 100 well on the way this time around. Auston Matthews is already knocking on the door of 30 goals before the halfway mark of the season, his eighth year in the league with 30+ to his credit in each of them. Their big issue once more this season has been keeping the puck out of their own net. Ilya Samsonov has been waived and with Joseph Woll injured and Martin Jones likely to start in Los Angeles it will be interesting to see if he doubles up or if Denis Hilderby is the man who will make his NHL debut in net for the Leafs against the Ducks. Hilderby is 7-5-3 with a .919 save percentage with the Toronto Marlies this season. That would add another level of interest for a franchise who are struggling.
