The New York Islanders head out West to take on the Anaheim Ducks at the Honda Center in this NHL matchup on Wednesday night. The Islanders are sitting fifth in the Metropolitan division with a 34 win, 27 losses and eight overtime defeat record, putting them on a points total of 78. This has the Isles currently occupying one of the two Wild Card spots as they lead the Florida Panthers by five points in the race for the postseason. New York will be looking to bounce back after dropping two straight games following its 5-2 away loss to the LA Kings. They are in a difficult spot here as they will now have to contend with the second leg of a road back-to-back after playing on Tuesday night. The saving grace, at least, is that the team won’t have to deal with any strenuous travel as it plays its second consecutive game in California. The Islanders are just below .500 on the road this season with 14 wins, 15 losses and two overtime defeats.
The Ducks will mostly be looking to end the final stretch of the regular season on a positive run of form as they sit second from bottom in the Pacific division. Anaheim has amassed a points total of 54 by way of a 22 win, 35 loss, 10 overtime defeat record and lead the last-place Sharks by three points. The Ducks suffered a 5-4 overtime defeat at home to Nashville in their last outing, the third defeat in the last four games for the team. It hasn’t been all bad for Anaheim however, as the Ducks have managed to win five of the last 10 following a three game winning streak earlier in the month. However, that form has now seemingly abandoned them as the team seeks only its third win in the last seven games.
