The Colorado Avalanche head to California to take on the Anaheim Ducks at the Honda Center for this NHL Western Conference matchup. The defending champion Aves are involved in a tight race for the top spot in the Central division with the Wild and the Stars as all three teams are within a point of one another. Colorado currently sits second in the division with a record of 43 wins, 23 losses and six overtime defeats for a points total of 92. This puts them even with third-place Dallas and only a single point behind the Wild in the race for the top spot. The Avalanche also have a healthy seven point lead over fourth-place Jets, who are battling for a Wild Card spot. The champs have been on a roll as of late with their 4-3 shootout victory signaling the teams seventh win from the last eight games.
The visitors will fancy their chances of getting the win against a faltering Ducks team that is second to last in the Pacific division. Anaheim has posted a record of only 23 wins, 40 losses and 10 overtime defeats for a total of 56 points. This puts the Ducks just three points above the Sharks and rock bottom of the division. Anaheim has been on a poor run of form, losing the last four consecutive games following a 6-3 home loss to St. Louis. They’ve also now managed to lose six of the last seven, all of which have come at home during this extended homestand. The Ducks have not seen a change in their fortunes when playing at the Honda Center as they’ve racked up 21 losses and three overtime defeats in front of the home fans.

There’s bound to be some tired legs out there and it’s compounded by the fact that they are playing on the road. Colorado are set to play their third-string goalie here with their backup still dealing with an injury. Anaheim are not a good team but they have enough working in their favor here where they should be able to keep this to within a goal.
