American League All Stars vs National League All Stars Prediction & Betting Tips - All Star Game

by Joseph King | in Baseball Predictions

The 93rd edition of Major League Baseball’s annual All-Star showcase takes place tonight between the American League and the National League. The AL has won this contest nine straight years with last year’s result ending in s 3-2 victory. The Arizona Diamondbacks' Zac Gallen is expected to take the mound as the NL starter and has posted an 11-3 record and a 3.04 ERA with his ball club. The Atlanta Braves have an incredible eight players selected for the National League team which is understandable given their terrific performance so far. The NL has some serious hitting talent in this lineup with the likes of Acuña Jr, Mookie Betts and Freddy Freeman. In addition, they also have the MLB’s second-leading home run getter in the reserves in Matt Olsen. The NL will be hoping they can overturn their conference’s lengthy losing streak on Tuesday although it’s always difficult to gauge motivation in what is essentially an exhibition.

For the American League, Yankees righty Gerrit Cole will take to the mound as the AL starting pitcher. Cole is making his sixth appearance in the Midsummer Classic although this will be his first time as the starting pitcher. The 32-year-old is having a fine season with a 9-2 record and a 2.85 ERA so far this year. All eyes will be on the Japanese phenom Shohei Ohtani who has been named a two-way starter for the third consecutive season. Ohtani leads the MLB in home runs with 32 and has posted a 7-4 record with a 3.32 ERA as a starting pitcher in the 2023 season. The Texas Rangers dominate the American League roster with no less than five of their players expected to be in the starting lineup.

Our American League All Stars vs National League All Stars Prediction

Pitching tends to have the edge in MLB All-Star games which has been proven true for the last few editions of the contest. As we stated earlier, it’s always difficult to determine how players will approach a friendly match as there is very little on the line. Still, pitchers will never want to give up hits or runs regardless of the environment they are throwing. With a number of the league’s best power hitters also missing out, we could see this one playing out similar to last year. Our MLB All-Star AL vs NL prediction is for under 7.5 runs.
