The world number 16 was a semi-finalist at Roland Garros six years ago. The same year saw the American win the Copa Colsanitas in Bogota. Her appearances on clay have been sparse in recent years with just nine matches played since the start of 2023.

This tournament has seen her beat Veronika Kudermetova and tenth-seeded Yulia Putintseva with no sets and just 12 games lost. Anisimova has won the two previous meetings between these players but both were on hard courts.

Emma Navarro is the world number 11 and winning this match against her fellow American will take her up to tenth. The 23-year-old has won one WTA Tour event this year. That was in Merida last month but played on an outdoor hard court.

Navarro won 17 clay court matches last year and 34 in 2023. Two WTA Challenger Tour finals reached and the fourth round at Roland Garros last year.

This is her first clay court tournament of the year and wins have come against Hailey Baptiste and 15th-seeded Ashlyn Krueger after dropping the first set. We tip Anisimova to win this match.
