Second seed Karolina Muchova will play unseeded Aliaksandra Sasnovich on Tuesday, in the opening round of the 2023 Poland Open. Sasnovich arrives for her second appearance in this tournament hoping to finally be able to take charge of her season. The Belarussian, ranked 75th in the world, has lost more matches than she has won. Her record is 13 wins and 17 losses with the majority of her defeats, eight, coming on hard courts. Sasnovich played her last Singles match three weeks ago, losing her second-round tie at Wimbledon. She is a strong performer on hard courts and all four tour finals that she has contested have come on the surface.

Karolina Muchova is having an exciting season and has won 25 of the 34 matches she has played. The highlight of her campaign was her run to the French Open final, the first Grand Slam final of her career. On hard court however is where most of her victories, 15, have come. Injuries at the end of last season saw Muchova finish the year outside of the top 140 places. Her performances this season have seen her record a career-high ranking of world number 16 and is currently down two places to 18th. Muchova also last took to the court three weeks ago, exiting Wimbledon in the opening round. The winner will advance to the second round where a showdown with either the qualifier Rebecca Sramkova or wildcard Weronika Ewald awaits
