Algeria play their first game of Group F of the preliminary round of the Men's World Handball Cup. They take on outsiders Morocco and should be able to get their campaign off to a winning start. The other two countries in this group are Iceland and Portugal, with the top three going into the main round. Algeria were in pot two of the competing nations, so it will be a shock if they were not to progress. They qualified for these championships by finishing third in the African Championships and this is their first time in the finals since 2015. They'll hope to do a lot better than in those championships when losing all seven of their matches. Not since 2001 have they made it into the main round but a win in this match will take them a long way towards repeating that feat. Recent friendlies have seen them lose narrowly to Russia and Poland, a repetition of that form will be good enough to beat Morocco.

Their opponents were in pot four for the draw so are favourites to come bottom in this group. That will take them into the Presidents' Cup. This is the first time that they have qualified for these championships in 14 years when finishing in 20th place. Their best ever performance in this competition was a 17th place finish back in 1999. They will have to make history if starting their campaign with a win as they have never beaten Algeria before. A bet on Algeria to get the win here is the recommended bet but tougher matches lie ahead for them in this group.
