Sixth seed Marie Bouzkova takes on qualifier Alex Eala in round one of the Guadalajara Open Akron. Can the qualifier cause an upset and reach the next round? Find out more in our match prediction. 

The winner of this hard court match will face either wild card Ana Sofia Sanchez or qualifier Lucrezia Stefanini in the last 16. Bouzkova is ranked 30th in the latest rankings but was a career-high 15th four months ago.

Her last tournament was the US Open where she lost to Liudmila Samsonova in round two after winning the first set. The Czech will want to recapture the form that produced a run to the final of last month’s WTA 500 tournament in Washington.

That included a three-set win over Aryna Sabalenka. It was her second WTA final of the year, the other being achieved on clay.

It’s been a big week so far for Alex Eala who is down at 147th in the latest rankings. Eala had to win two qualifying matches to get into the main draw and did so without dropping a set.

Those wins have taken her to 143rd in the live rankings and that equals her career-high. The Filipino 19-year-old failed to qualify for the main draw of the US Open. Last week saw her play the Guadalajara WTA 125 event and lost in round two.

2022 saw her win the US Open junior title but her success since then has been mainly on the ITF circuit with a hard court title win two months ago. At this level, we tip Bouzkova to win in straight sets.
