Alexander Zverev vs Tomas Martin Etcheverry Prediction & Betting Tips - ATP French Open
by Steve Ashfield | in Tennis Predictions
22nd seeded Alexander Zverev bids to reach his third successive Roland Garros semi-final. He takes on the unseeeded Tomas Martin Etcheverry with the winner up against either Casper Ruud or Holger Rune in the last four. Zverev started this French Open ranked 27th and has all those points from the 2022 semi-final to defend. He's 34th in the live rankings but a win here can take him up to 21st. Last year's semi-final was the match in which he had to retire injured and that caused him a lengthy absence from the ATP Tour. He's not had an easy time making his way back up the rankings but has shown good form in recent weeks. Four last 16s were reached before a loss in the Geneva quarter finals. Back at Roland Garros where the German has now reached the last eight on five occasions, he's only dropped one set in his four matches. That was in his third round match when beating the 12th seeded Frances Tiafoe. Round four saw him defeat 28th seeded Grigor Dimitrov for the loss of just eight games.
Tomas Martin Etcheverry began this Grand Slam tournament ranked 49th but is up to a career high 31st in the live list. Reaching the Roland Garros semi-finals will take him up to 22nd and guarantee a seeding at Wimbledon. The Argentiian started the year ranked 79th and his rise up the rankings has been due to his form on clay. In South America, he lost in the final of the Chile Open and reached the last eight in Buenos Aires. He also lost in the final of the Houston clay court tournament but didn't fare so well in Europe until getting to the final of a Challenger Tour event held in Bordeaux. It's gone well for him at Roland Garros where he had never previously won a main draw match. When starting this tournament he'd only ever won one main draw match in a Grand Slam. That's all changed here and he's beaten three seeds so far witn no sets dropped. The last round saw him beat the 27th seed Yoshihito Nishioka. After a first set tie-break, Etcheverry only lost one game in the next two sets. This is his first match against Zverev and we go for the German to get the win.
