Alexander Zverev vs Roman Safiullin Prediction & Betting Tips - ATP Chengdu Open
by Joseph King | in Tennis Predictions
The final of the ATP Chengdu Open is set with the top-seeded tournament favorite Alexander Zverev taking on surprise finalist Roman Safiullin. The German Sascha Zverev was able to comfortably dispose of the prior second tournament favorite Grigor Dimitrov in straight sets in the semi-final. The 26-year-old is continuing his strong form and will look to cap off what has been a solid past two months with his first ever title in this competition. In addition to the trophy at stake, Zverev will also likely have an eye on the Nitto ATP Finals which start in mid November. Zverev, who was crowned champion of the ATP Finals in both 2018 and 2021, will do his qualification chances a world of good with a win here. He’s just recently overtaken Holger Rune for seventh-place in the qualification standings. This means that he would earn a spot in the competition as things currently stand as the top seven automatically progress. Being crowned ATP Chengdu champion would put a healthy buffer between Zverev and eighth-place.
Roman Safiullin is into his first career ATP final after upsetting Lorenzo Musetti in the semi-final to make it to this stage. Safiullin was superb in that match, winning in straight sets thanks to wins of 6-3 and 6-4. The Russian is playing some sublime tennis at the moment and has yet to lose a set at the Chengdu Open. Musetti was Safiullin’s biggest test so far in China but he’ll face a sizable challenge here in the form of Zverev. The last two times that Safiullin faced off against top-15 ranked opposition both resulted in losses (3-2 to Tommy Paul, 3-1 to Sinner). Currently holding the 55th position in the ATP rankings, he’ll have to upset 10th-ranked Alexander Zverev for his first title win. Zverev represents the highest-ranked player Safiullin will have gone up against since Sinner eliminated him from Wimbledon in the quarter-finals.
