Alexander Zverev vs Matteo Berrettini Prediction & Betting Tips - ATP Mutua Madrid Open

by Steve Ashfield | in Tennis Predictions

Alexander Zverev is one win away from his second title of the year. He takes on Matteo Berrettini in the final of the Madrid Open after two big wins in the past couple of days. Zverev is the fifth seed, three above his Italian opponent. Friday saw the German defeat Rafael Nadal in straight sets. Beating two top players in successive days isn't an easy task. However, Zverev followed up that win over Nadal with another straight sets win with a victory over third seeded Dominic Thiem. His previous title victory this year was in Mexico where he beat Stefanos Tsitsipas. That means of the current top five in the world rankings, he's beaten the three of them this year. Zverev is attempting to win the Madrid Open for the second time, his previous victory being in 2018. He's already won five ATP Tour titles on clay but this would be the first one since 2019.

Matteo Berrettini is the eighth seed in this tournament and beat Casper Ruud in his semi-final. That was an evening match played after the women's final, so he has less time to recover than Zverev. He's attermpting to win his second successive tournament, having won the recent event held in Belgrade. He also made it to the final of the ATP Cup right at the start of the year. His good run in that team competition was followed by a run to the last 16 in the Australian Open. However, abdominal pain caused him to withdraw from that event. He missed several tournaments due to that, not returning to the circuit until April. He's had some good wins on his way to this final and only dropped one set. He trails Zverev 2-1 in previous meetings with them at 1-1 on clay. Zverev has had a great week though and he can get the win here.

Our Alexander Zverev vs Matteo Berrettini Prediction

Alexander Zverev has shown this week what a threat he'll be at the French Open. The German has not dropped a set on his way to this final. Considering he has had to face Rafael Nadal and Dominic Thiem in the past two days, thats's some achievement. He hasn't had long matches too, so will still be fresh for this final. Matteo Berrettini has played well since his return to the circuit. He won in Belgrade and now has this Madrid Open final. Zverev is clearly in the better form and he can win this title.
