Alexander Zverev has a tough match on Saturday against Frances Tiafoe in the third round of the French Open. Zverev, a two-time semi-finalist here, is slowly taking charge of his season after an inconsistent start. He currently has a record of 18 wins and 14 losses with 10 of his victories coming on clay. His inconsistency precipitated his dropping out of the top 60, the first time he had fallen that far in seven years. He starts this match ranked 55th in the live ranking. Zverev made it to the last four here last season. He will be out to protect the points won then, to avoid dropping further down the rankings. Frances Tiafoe has equaled last season's tally of eight wins on clay. The American isn't a renowned performer on the surface but has done extremely well in the 11 matches he has played. His form on clay has seen him claim his first tour title on the surface. He won the US Men's Clay Court Championship which was also his second career tour title. Tiafoe has built on that momentum to reach this round for the first time in nine appearances at the competition. The current world number 12 defeated qualifier Aslan Karatsev in the second round, coming from a set down to win 3-1. A fourth-round showdown with either 28th seed Grigor Dimitrov or the unseeded Daniel Altmaier awaits the winner from this duel.
