It will be an all-German battle when top seed Alexander Zverev takes on unseeded Daniel Altmaier in Acapulco. The winner of this first-round tie will then play unseeded Miomir Kecmanovic for a place in the quarters. Alexander Zverev is coming off a disappointing semifinal exit in Los Cabos. Making his debut in the tournament, the 26-year-old was one of the favourites for the title. He lost in three sets to eventual winner Jordan Thompson. Zverev has been one of the in-form players in the ATP and has so far won 11 of 14 matches. He also made the semifinals in Melbourne. His strong start to the year has seen him move up one place to fifth in the live ranking. Zverev triumphed in Acapulco in 2021 and finished as runner-up three seasons before that. He has won both times he has been paired up against Altmaier with his most recent win coming last year at the US Open.

Daniel Altmaier has never won a main draw match in this event. He has lost in this very round in his last two appearances. With his poor start to the year, this could yet be another first-round loss. Altmaier has played eight times so far and has been defeated in five of those. He is currently on a four-match losing run with the last two defeats coming on clay. The 25-year-old is coming off a first-round exit in Buenos Aires. He is currently ranked 53rd in the live ranking. Altmaier has registered all his three wins this year on hard courts. He made the quarterfinals in Auckland which is his best performance so far.
