Alexander Zverev - Carlos Alcaraz: Form Analysis

Third seed Carlos Alcaraz is yet to win a clay court tournament this year. He’s also never won this Grand Slam but he’ll hope both those statistics change on Sunday. The third seed has only won the Indian Wells tournament this year and that was on a hard court. His year has been a bit stop-start due to picking up injuries. He had one match on clay in RIo against Thiago Monteiro that only lasted two games before he had to retire hurt. This tournament has gone much better and he made it to the last four with only one set being dropped. That was to Jesper de Jong in round two. The last eight saw him beat Stefanos Tsitsipas in straight sets but he had to go to five sets to beat Jannik Sinner in Friday’s semi-final. He trailed 1-0 and 2-1 in that match but won the final two to progress. Alcaraz is third in the live rankings but winning the title will take him into second above Novak Djokovic. In the Live ATP Race, the Spaniard is fourth but beating Zverev will see him rise to third.

Alexander Zverev has finally made it to the final at Roland Garros. The German had lost in the semi-finals for the past three years but finally went one round further this year. Zverev is the fourth seed at Roland Garros and also in that position in the live rankings. In the Live ATP Race, he's in second place but can't climb higher in either ranking lists. To get to this final, Zverev has had to play two final sets. Those were against Tallon Griekspoor and Holger Rune. The last eight saw him beat Alex de Minaur in straight sets and then he came from a set down to defeat Jannik Sinner in the semi-finals. He leads Alcaraz 5-4 in previous meetings. Three of those matches were on clay and it’s Alcaraz who leads 2-1. Their only match at Roland Garros saw Zverev win two years ago. We go for over 3.5 sets to be played in this match.
