Alexander Zverev vs Carlos Alcaraz Prediction & Betting Tips - ATP French Open
by Steve Ashfield | in Tennis Predictions
It's a star studded quarter finals in the men's singles at Roland Garros. None of all these lower seeded players doing well as in the women's event. Alexander Zverev is the third seed and takes on Carlos Alcaraz who is seeded sixth. The winner of this quarter final faces either Novak Djokovic or Rafael Nadal in the last four, that's something to keep you awake at night! Zverev is still chasing that first Grand Slam title, though he is the reigning Olympic champion. He's in his third quarter final at Roland Garros but has only once reached the last four and never the final. He's yet to win a tournament this season but has had a very consistent clay court season. The German got to semi-finals in both Monte Carlo and Rome and lost to Alcaraz in the Madrid final. Still playing in the early hours of the morning of the final was his reasonable excuse for losing heavily to the Spaniard. He'd won his previous two matches against Alcaraz, both on hard courts and played last year when the Spaniard was a lot lower in the rankings. At Roland Garros he's had one match in which he looked as if his dreams of winning the title were over. The second round saw him have to come from two sets down to beat Sebastian Baez. That is the only match in which he's dropped a set.
Carlos Alcaraz has had a fantastic 2022 to date. In terms of ranking points earned, only Nadal has earned more than his Spanish compatriot. A win over Zverev and defeat for Nadal to Djokovic will see Alcaraz go top of the ATP Race. Alcaraz has won four titles this year and he's only just turned 19. On clay, he's won in Barcelona and Madrid and is chasing a third straight title here. If he achieves that, it'll be four titles in five tournaments. The Spaniard has won 20 of his last 21 matches, the other being a loss to Sebastian Korda in Monte Carlo and he avenged that loss in the third round of this tournament. To win in Madrid, he had to beat Djokovic, Nadal and Zverev, at least it'd only be two out of those three here. He did have problems in the second round when having to come from a set down to beat Albert Ramos Vinolas in five sets. He continues to be in great form and this is his second Grand Slam quarter final, the other being the 2021 US Open. Back the Spaniard to get the win here, though it might be a bit more difficult than in Madrid.
