Top seed Alexander Zverev will square off with the unseeded Alexander Shevchenko in the second round of the Rio Open. This match will mark their first career meeting and the winner will play Francisco Comesana or Nicolas Jarry in the quarter-finals. Below is our prediction for this match.  

Alexander Zverev is making his debut in Rio. The world number two defeated the unseeded Bu Yunchaokete in straight sets in the first round. 

He was a bit sluggish in the first set and ended up requiring a tiebreaker to win. The German has been in terrific form to start the season and through 12 outings, has won 10 times. 

This form has already resulted in a runner-up finish at the Australian Open. 

Alexander Shevchenko is also on his debut campaign in Rio. The Kazakh started things off with a 2-0 victory over homegrown favourite Felipe Meligeni Alves. 

That was the fourth victory of a shaky season that has seen him defeated five times. 

Nonetheless, he has been able to claw his way up the ATP ladder and is now placed 95th in the live ranking. 

Shevchenko is a strong clay player and has registered 171 of his 256 career total victories on clay.
