Alexander Zverev can reach the last four at Roland Garros for the first time. The world number six faces unseeded Alejandro Davidovich Fokina and the winner of this match takes on either Stefanos Tsitsipas or Daniil Medvedev in the semi-final. Zverev has had one clay court title triumph this year winning the Madrid Open. That was a massive week for the German as he had wins over both Rafael Nadal and Dominic Thiem before beating Matteo Berrettini in the final. Previously to that he'd won a title in Acapulco. If Zverev keeps on winning in Paris, he could move up from his current ranking of sixth to fourth, fifth will be achieved if beating Fokina. This is the third time that Zverev has reached the Roland Garros third quarter final but he's yet to get past this stage. He nearly lost in round one after going two sets to love down to Oscar Otte. He got out of that one and has since had straight sets victories over Roman Safiullen, Laslo Dere and Kei Nishikori.

Alejandro Davidovich Fokina is in the last eight of a Grand Slam for the first time in his career. Before this year his best at Roland Garros was just the second round. He's currently 46th in the world but was 97th this time last year. This is his third quarter final of 2021 and he'll be out to reach his second semi-final, the other being on clay in Estoril. He's beaten one top ten player this year, defeating Matteo Berrettini. He's already lost five sets in this tournament with five-setters against Botic van de Zandschlup and 16th seeded Casper Ruud. The last round saw him defeat Frederico Delbonis in four sets. He's played Zverev on two previous occasions and is still waiting to win his first set. Both losses took place in 2020 and this is the first time they've met on clay. Go for Zverev to win this in straight sets.
