Cameron Norrie may be the 16th seed but he has a disappointing record in Grand Slams. He faces unseeded Alexander Shevchenko in the US Open first round but still looking to reach his first quarter final in New York. Last year he reached a career best fourth round here but still he's only got past that stage once in Grand Slams. That was at Wimbledon in 2022 but he's yet to get past the third round of a Grand Slam event this year. He's world ranked 16th and that's his lowest position since October 2021. His last four matches have all been lost and the last three of those were all on hard courts. Norrie will be looking to recapture the form that he showed in the first quarter of the year. The British number one reached the final of the Auckland Classic  (hard court event) and won the clay court title in Rio beating Carlos Alcaraz. The quarter finals were reached at Indian Wells but his current form is way below that level.

Alexander Shevchenko is ranked a career high 83rd and is in the main draw of this tournament for the first time. His best Grand Slam performance was gettng to the second round at Roland Garros this year. The 22-year-old has had some recent wins on hard courts. In Washington, he made it to the last 16 and beat Sebastian Korda that week. Shevchenko also won a couple of matches to get into the Cincinnati main draw. January saw him win a hard court Challenger Tour event in Tenerife and later reached another final in Phoenix. He may not win this match but the Russian is more than capable of winning a set in this match. We recommend a bet on over 3.5 sets to be played.
