Alexander Bublik started this Miami Open at a career high 18th in the rankings. He's at that seeding in this outdoor hard court tournament and faces unseeded Matteo Arnaldi in round two. The winner will take on either 11th seed Stefanos Tsitsipas or unseeded Denis Shapovalov in the next round. Bublik has won one tournament this year, an indoor hard court event in Montpellier. His form on outdoor hard court events is strong with a recent runners-up spot in Dubai. Bublik also got to the last four in Adelaide two months ago. His most recent tournament was in Indian Wells where he lost to Alex de Minaur in the last 32. His best performance at the Miami Open was in 2021 when reaching the quarter final.

Matteo Arnaldi was at 38th in the latest rankings and that was a career high. The first round of this Masters 1000 tournament produced a straight sets win over Arthur Fils for the loss of seven games taking him up to 37th in the live rankings. His first tournament of the year saw him get to the last eight in Brisbane. Since then though he's been unable to win two matches in a row. He also played Indian Wells and was beaten in round two by eventual winner Carlos Alcaraz.
