Seventh seeded Alexander Bublik has no other seeds left in his half of the Firenze Open. He takes on JJ Wolf in the quarter finals with the winner up against either qualifier Mikael Ymer or unseeded Roberto Caballes Baena in the last four. Bublik began this tournament ranked 43rd in the world but up six places in the live rankings. That's closing in on his highest ever ranking of 30th achieved last year. September was a good month for Bublik as he reached the final of a hard court tournament held in Metz. That was his third final of the year and one was won in Montpellier in January. He's 36th in the ATP Race but would be higher if playing better in the Grand Slams. Bublik didn't get past the third round in any of them this year. So far in this tournament, he's beaten Cristian Garin and Corentin Moutet without dropping a set.

JJ Wolf was ranked 75th at the start of this tournament but up to 68th as a result of this run to the quarter finals. That takes him above his career best ranking of 72nd. A win over Bublik will see him rise a further five places. This is only his second ATP Tour quarter final of the year, the other being in Washington in August. He has been playing a lot of Challenger Tour tournaments in 2022, regularly reaching the last eight. This week has seen him defeat Francesco Maestrelli (after losing the first set) and then fourth seeded Maxime Cressy in straight sets. Back Bublik to get the win here.
