Fourth seed Jannik Sinner will on Friday face unseeded Alexander Bublik in the quarterfinals at the Halle Open. Sinner has dropped a set in each one of his two matches in Halle. In the last round, he was forced to come from a set down to defeat Lorenzo Sonego 2-1. This was win number 32 for the Italian in a season that has seen him become a top-10 player. The win over Sonego allowed him to move up one place to number eight in the live ranking which is a career high. Sinner and Bublik have played each other three times previously with Sinner winning all three encounters. The latest match was played a little over a week ago in Hertogenbosch where Sinner won 2-0 to begin his grass-court campaign.

Alexander Bublik will have that defeat fresh in mind and will seek revenge here. He has performed a bit better than Sinner in Halle and has dropped one set in his two matches. This was the middle set in his second-round battle with Jan-Lennard Struff. Bublik is a decent performer on grass and has compiled a record of 33 wins and 23 losses so far in his career. Three of those wins have come this season and have set him on the right path toward turning his year around. The Kazakh has struggled to get going and currently has lost five more matches than he has won. A semifinal showdown with either ninth seed Alexander Zverev or Nicolas Jarry awaits the winner.
