Fifth seed Alex de Minaur bids to reach the last eight of the Swiss Indoors hard court Championship. He takes on unseeded Tallon Griekspoor for the right to face either fourth seed Hubert Hurkacz or Jan-Lennard Struff in the quarter finals. De Minaur is ranked 13th at present in both the overall and live rankings. The Australian will need to get highly impressive results both this week and the Paris Masters if wanting to qualify for the ATP Tour Finals. De Minaur is attempting to reach his second successive quarter final after getting to that stage in Tokyo last week. He's looking to recapture the form that saw him get to hard court finals in both Los Cabos and Toronto in early August. So far in Basel, the 24-year-old has beaten Diego Schwartzman, winning both sets 6-4.

Tallon Griekspoor was ranked 25th at the start of this tournament and is up to 22nd in the live list. That sets a new career high for the Dutchman beating his previous best of 24th achieved in July of this year. The 27-year-old has got to the last eight in two of his last three tournaments, all played on hard courts. His most recent quarter final appearance was in Stockholm last week. He only had to win one match to get to that stage (as was the case with his previous quarter final) and then lost to Pavel Kotov who was ranked 109th at the time. Griekspoor hasn't won two matches in a tournament since reaching the final in Washington two months ago and this is his eighth singles event since then. He had to go to three sets to get past lucky loser Thiago Seyboth Wild in round one of this tournament. He's only played de Minaur once on the ATP Tour and beat him in three sets this year but that was on grass. They also met on the Challenger Tour six years ago with de Minaur winning that hard court match in straight sets. We plump for de Minaur to get the victory.
