Alex De Minaur vs Stefanos Tsitsipas Prediction & Betting Tips - ATP Barcelona
by Devesh Jaganath | in Tennis Predictions
Familiar foes Alex De Minaur and Stefanos Tsitsipas will cross paths for the eleventh time in their careers when the pair meet in the quarter-final of the ATP Barcelona Open on Friday afternoon. Ranked fifth in the world, Tsitsipas made a decent start on the clay surface this year, reaching the quarter-final in Monte Carlo, where he overcame Benjamin Bonzi and Nicolas Jarry in the opening rounds but was unable to get by Taylor Fritz, losing to the American in straight sets. Despite still holding a strong record of 16-5 for the year, the Greek has found it difficult to emulate the form he showed at the Australian Open, where he appeared in the final against Novak Djokovic. Here in Barcelona, though, he has looked better, beating Pedro Cachin in the tournament opener and following up with a solid display against Denis Shapovalov in the last round, beating the Canadianfor the loss of only five games. Tsitsipas has won all eight of his ATP Tour matches against de Minaur plus two wins out of three on lesser tours. There's only been two matches played on clay both won by the Greek with the most recent being in this tournament two years ago.
Currently ranked 19th in the world, Alex De Minaur will also be hoping to bounce back from his disappointment in Monte Carlo, where he was beaten in the round of 32 by qualifier Jan Lennard Struff after beating Andy Murray in his tournament opener. The Australian has already earned himself a piece of silverware this year, winning the tournament in Acapulco after overcoming Tommy Paul in the final (3-6 6-4 6-1). In this tournament, De Minaur dispatched Alexander Shevchenko in the round of 32 and received a walkover in the second match, with Grigor Dimitrov pulling out of the tournament. De Minaur’s only win in 11 attempts against Tsitsipas came way back in 2017, which was only their second meeting and on a grass court. Since then, the Australian has lost nine consecutive matches against this opponent, winning just three sets (one in a first to four) in that time.
