Third seed Alex de Minaur will continue with his Acapulco title defence with a game against unseeded Sebastian Ofner in the second round. De Minaur sent a message with his first-round win over Taro Daniel, that he is here seeking another title run. The Australian took just one hour and 19 minutes to eliminate Daniel in straight sets. He lost just three games and earned his 11th win in 15 outings this year. One of his wins was against world number one Novak Djokovic at the United Cup. That was his biggest win, his best result came in Rotterdam as he finished as runner-up. This allowed him to break into the ATP top 10 for the first time. He has however dropped four places and is ranked 13th in the live ranking.

Sebastian Ofner ended a run of three successive defeats with his first-round victory over crowd favourite Ernesto Escobedo. It was a welcome result, but it was a testament to how poor he has been this season. The Austrian battled for three hours against a player ranked outside the ATP top 400. He lost the first set and had to win a tiebreaker in the third set. Ofner, who is making his main draw debut in Acapulco, has compiled a 6-6 record thus far. He began the season with high promise as he made the semifinals in Hong Kong. But since then he hasn’t been able to win back-to-back matches. He is currently ranked 37th in the world which is a career high ranking. The winner from this match will set up a quarterfinal showdown with either Stefanos Tsitsipas or Flavio Cobolli.
