Alex de Minaur bids to reach only his second Grand Slam quarter final. He's got a battle on his hands though as the Australian faces 11th seeded Jannik Sinner. Alex de Minaur began this first Grand Slam of the year ranked 42nd, but the 32nd seed. This is the first time that he has reached the fourth round of his home Grand Slam. His previous best was the third round in both 2019 and 2021. Prior to this event, de Minaur only played one event. That was representing Australia in the ATP Cup, winning against Matteo Berretini and Ugo Humbert but losing in straight sets to Daniil Medvedev. The Australian has beaten Lorenzo Musetti (in four sets), Kami Majchrzak and Pablo Andujar (the latter two in straight sets) to reach the fourth round, not the hardest of routes and helped by the withdrawal of Casper Ruud.

Jannik Sinner had never previously been past the second round of this event. He's attempting to reach what would be only his second Grand Slam quarter final, the other being at the 2020 French Open. He's far more tha a clay specialist though and won four tournaments last year. He also lost in the final of the Miami Masters, so is always a threat in tournaments. Sinner may be seeded 11th but he's now up to 10th in the rankings and won all three of his matches in the ATP Cup. Sinner has only dropped one set in this tournament. He beat Joao Sousa and Steve Johnson in straight sets but then had to go to four sets to beat Taro Daniel. He's had two previous meetings with de Minaur and won them both. Go for him to win this and make it three in a row.
