Fourth seed Alex de Minaur will meet qualifier Jack Draper on Tuesday in the first round of ATP Tokyo. The winner here will then proceed to play Francisco Cerundolo or Diego Schwartzman. Alex de Minaur makes his fourth appearance in Tokyo after losing his opener in Shanghai. The Australian has struggled in recent outings, losing four of his last 10 matches. He has however defeated Draper before, and has excelled on hard courts this year. This should give him confidence for a winning start. de Minaur has compiled an impressive 39-22 record and this form has kept him a mainstay of the ATP top 20. He is currently ranked 13th in the world and has previously been as high as 11th. de Minaur has won one title and has finished as runner-up a further three times including at the Toronto Masters. Three of those four finals have been on hard courts, a surface he has compiled a 24-11 record on.

Jack Draper is making his debut in Tokyo. He started things off in the qualifying rounds and won both his qualifiers without dropping a set. The Briton defeated Jurij Rodionov by the loss of just one game in his last match. He will hope to be as decisive against de Minaur in what is their second-ever meeting. Draper has battled through injuries this year but when fit, he has shown top qualities. The 21-year-old has compiled a 25-12 record and has won eight of his last 10 matches. He has registered one runner-up finish in the challenger circuit and also made the semifinals in Adelaide. His best results of the campaign are however his fourth-round finishes at the US Open and Indian Wells. Draper, who is ranked 88th in the ATP, has won 15 of 22 matches on hard courts.
