Top seed Alex de Minaur will take on unseeded Hugo Gaston in the quarter-finals in Antwerp. This will mark their first matchup in two years and here are some stats and a prediction for the match.

Alex de Minaur came from a set down to oust Roberto Carballes Baena in his tournament opener in the second round. The match was his first in over a month.

Before arriving at the European Open, de Minaur had last taken to the court at the US Open where he earned a last-eight finish. The Australian has had bittersweet experiences in his previous two Antwerp appearances.

He was a finalist here in 2020, on his debut, but on returning a year later, was eliminated in the first round.

This year’s champion in Acapulco and Hertogenbosch, de Minaur has won 41 matches in 54 outings. He is currently placed 10th in the live ranking.

Though he hasn’t been fluid in his wins, Hugo Gaston has stabilized in Antwerp. The Frenchman arrived in torrid form as he had lost seven straight matches.

Now, he is on a two-match winning run and will hope to build on this as the tournament progresses. Gaston is a strong indoor hardcourt player and it is no surprise that he has managed to halt his recent misfortunes.

He has won six of nine matches on the surface this season and over 60 overall in his career. To advance to this round, Gaston overcame the challenge of Mariano Navone and won in three sets.

Currently placed 79th in the live ranking, the 24-year-old is seeking to win his second tour quarter-final of the year.

The winner here will proceed to play Felix Auger-Aliassime or Roberto Bautista Agut.
