Number two seed Holger Rune will take on the seventh-seed Alex De Minaur in the semi-final of the 2023 Queen’s Club Championship on Saturday. The winner of this match will face either Carlos Alcaraz or Sebastian Korda in the final on Sunday. This is the fourth meeting between the pair, and Rune leads the standings 2-1. The Dane recorded his first-ever grasscourt win in this competition when he beat Maxime Cressy in the first round in straight sets, and he hasn’t looked back since. He made light work of wildcard Ryan Peniston in round two, but his undisputed best performance of the tournament came in the last round against top 20 opponent Lorenzo Musetti. Rune went 4-1 behind in the first set in that match but grew into the match and came back in fine style to win in straight sets. He is now 33-11 for the year. While he has beaten this opponent in the past, they have never met on the grass, where De Minaur has more experience. This will be a huge test for the Dane. 

As mentioned, De Minaur arguably has the upper hand coming into this match, having already played five matches on the grass this year, adding to the 11 in each of the last two years. The Austrian is now 20-12 for the year and 4-1 on the surface, following wins over Andy Murray and Diego Schwartzman in straight sets. In the last round, he came up against Adrian Mannarino, who proved a worthy opponent, forcing the match to a third set. De Minaur broke the Frenchman’s serve early, though and powered home thereafter. His record on the surface is a positive 42-20 across his career, and he will be quietly confident about his chances here despite the gap in rank.
