Fifth seed Alex de Minaur and unseeded Diego Schwartzman will meet on Tuesday at the Swiss Indoors tournament first round. This will be the third meeting in 2023 between de Mianur and Schwartzman. de Minaur has won the previous two with the latest coming less than a week ago in Tokyo. With his form on indoor hard courts this season, he will be confident of another victory against the Argentine. De Minaur has won five of the eight matches he has played on indoor hard courts. The Australian, who was a finalist here in 2019, was eliminated in the quarterfinals in Tokyo in his last match. He is currently ranked 13th in the ATP.

Diego Schwartzman is ranked almost 100 places below de Minaur and finds himself 103rd in the live ranking. The Argentine has struggled with his form all through the season and has lost almost double the matches he has won. He has compiled a 16-27 record and is yet to play a match on indoor hard courts this season. Schwartzman has however seen an upturn in form in recent weeks and will hope to make a winning start to his Basel debut. The 31-year-old, whose last match was against de Minaur in Tokyo, has won four of his last six fixtures. The winner here will advance to take on either Tallon Griekspoor or Thiago Seyboth Wild.
