Alex De Minaur vs Aslan Karatsev Prediction & Betting Tips - ATP Mutua Madrid Open
by Devesh Jaganath in Tennis Predictions
The round of 32 at the Mutua Madrid Open will continue on Monday, and in our featured match, we will see Alex De Minaur take on Aslan Karatsev for a place in the final 16. Karatsev’s world rank has fallen off this year, down from 59th in January to 121st at present. The Russian is 12-8 this year and has found it difficult since his semi-final appearance in Pune back in January. Karatsev showed some signs of improvement in his first clay court tournament of the year in Munich, qualifying and going on to reach the Round of 16 before coming up against the eventual runner-up Botic Van De Zandschulp, who won in straight sets. However, the Russian got his revenge here in Madrid, beating the Austrian in the previous round (6-2 7-5), which followed wins over Laslo Djere and, more notably, Jan Lennard Struff in straight sets. Karatsev now has a positive record of 7-3 on the clay and will be hoping to build on his good start with another win in this one.
Currently ranked 19th in the world, Alex De Minaur will be wanting to bounce back from his disappointment in Barcelona last week, where he was beaten in the quarter-final by Stefanos Tsitsipas after overcoming Grigor Dimitrov in the round of 16. The Australian has already earned himself a piece of silverware this year, winning the tournament in Acapulco after beating Tommy Paul in the final (3-6 6-4 6-1). In this tournament, De Minaur dispatched Marco Cecchinato in his first match, which takes his record to 15-8 for the year and 3-2 on this surface. De Minaur did get the better of this opponent in their only previous meeting on the hardcourt back in 2020, which will give him loads of confidence to pull off another win in this match.

Our Alex De Minaur vs Aslan Karatsev Prediction
Owing to the vast gap in rank, De Minaur comes into this one as the clear favourite; however, it may not be as straightforward as the odds suggest. Karatsev has looked good here in Madrid and has already taken down two notable names to this stage. While he may find it hard to go on to win, we fancy he can win a set in this one. Our Alex De Minaur v Aslan Karatsev prediction is for Karatsev to win a set.
