Third seed Alex de Minaur and the alternate Alex Michelsen will face off in the second round of the Los Cabos Open. The winner will then advance to play either Emilio Nava or Jordan Thompson in the quarterfinals. Alex de Minaur will be defending the more than 160 points he won here last season in his run to the final. The Australian finished as runner-up in his debut tournament and will be optimistic of another good run. He has started the year in fine form and has so far won 10 of the 13 matches he has played. Six of his wins have come in eight outings on hard courts. The 25-year-old is coming off a runner-up finish in Rotterdam on indoor hard courts. He lost to the in-form Jannik Sinner in straight sets. At the event, de Minaur defeated two top 15 players. His strong start to the year has moved him into the ATP top 10 at number nine.

Alex Michelsen is making his Los Cabos debut and began things off on the right footing. The American produced a straight sets victory over fellow alternate Constant Lestienne in the first round. This was his ninth win in 14 outings in 2024. Eight of those wins have come on hard courts but so too have four of his defeats. His best result so far was his run to the third round in Melbourne in his debut at the major. The 19-year-old had a breakout year last season and is expected to make an even bigger leap this year. He won 61 matches alternating between the top three ATP levels and made the final in Newport, his first tour final. Despite advancing to this round, Michelsen has dropped four places to 78th in the live ranking.
