Tomas Martin Etcheverry, the seventh seed in this year’s ATP clay event in Houston, will battle unseeded Aleksandar Kovacevic in the first round. This is their first career meeting, and the winner will next face Brandon Holt or a yet-to-be-revealed qualifier. Below is our prediction for this match.

Kovacevic is having a strong campaign, alternating between the tour and challenger circuits. The world number 79 has won two challenger titles and was a finalist in Montpellier back in January.

That run in France was the first time he made it that far at a tour event. He, however, hasn’t won a match at a tour event since. Kovacevic, who is making his third appearance in Houston, is coming off a first-round loss in Miami.

Tomas Martin Etcheverry is in Houston for a third successive year. He will hope that returning to an event where he has had much success sparks a season turnaround.

Etcheverry has never failed to reach at least the semi-finals here and was a finalist in 2023. The Argentine is having a disappointing season and hasn’t been able to move past the quarter-finals at any event.

He has managed just eight wins in 18 outings and is currently on a two-match losing run. The world number 44 is coming off a first-round exit in Miami.
